If you enjoy teaching children from preschool to high school, or you want to be a college professor, Education - Child Development may be for you. Jobs are available for all levels of education. This pathway combines classroom instruction with hands-on community work experience.
Education - Child Development
The Education-Child Development Pathway provides students with the academic and technical preparation to pursue high-skill, high-demand careers for grades K-16. The Child Development pathway provides students with the skills and knowledge they need to pursue careers in child care, elementary and secondary education, post-secondary education, and related fields. The pathway emphasizes teaching.
According to the Occupational Employment and Wages, May 2022 statistics from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, California employs 157,950 elementary school (except special education) teachers who earn a mean annual wage of $90,470. Overall employment of elementary school teachers is projected to grow 4% from 2019-2029.
Careers
Careers that fall under the Child Development Pathway range in the level of education required which is commensurate with median income.
Higher attainment of education post high school equates to increasing median levels of income from child care workers and teacher assistants to teachers, school counselors, special education educators, college professors, and principals.

Courses
- Peer Tutoring: Tutor students in specific subjects.
- Child Development (Optional-Offered at Moorpark College, gives students dual credits)
- Health, Safety, and Nutrition for Children (Optional-Offered at Moorpark College, gives students dual credits)
- Academic Leadership: Trains and equips students to tutor and support peers in their academic classes.
- Teachers of Tomorrow: Students intern at local elementary schools.
