Sue Guy

Sue Guy began her career as a counselor at Mission Viejo High School in Orange County.  She and her family moved to Olympia, Washington, where she was employed at Tumwater High School as a special education teacher and as a counselor.  Mrs. Guy joined the Simi Valley Unified School District in 2004 and was a counselor at Sinaloa and Hillside MIddle Schools prior to coming to Royal. 

Sue is certified trainer in suicide awareness and intervention through Livingworks, a program designed to promote suicide-safer communities. She enjoys reaching out to faculty, staff and students and training them to be alert to persons with thoughts of suicide and how to connect them to suicide intervention resources.

Helping students reach their full academic and personal potential is very rewarding to Sue and she looks forward to working with all her students and their families.

Aamina Hennings started her school counseling career in 2007. As a School Counselor at Rensselaer Central Middle School, Irvington Community Middle School, and Hoosier Academy High School, Aamina has a passion to help today’s youth, which is the basis of being a motivational speaker (DNA Generation).

Aamina is new to California and loves being away from the snow and cold weather in the Midwest.  Spending time with her husband, and 2 sons keeps her smiling and happy. She loves singing, speaking, writing, and cooking.

With great excitement, Aamina has found her home at Royal High School in the counseling department and is looking forward to a wonderful school year with staff, students, and parents.

John Burton is now in his 11th year at Royal High School and has thirty-two years of experience in education as a Counselor, College Professor and College Football Coach. He has worked as a Special Education Counselor at J.F. Kennedy High School in Granada Hills, CA. Prior to that, he was employed in Indiana as a counselor at both Anderson and Bishop Chatard High Schools. He has taught in the Graduate Program, the 5th year teacher credential program, and coached for four years at California Lutheran University. John also has experience as a Youth Counselor in the California Youth Authority. He has coached football in Lund, Sweden and has been the Athletic Counselor at both Pierce College and Moorpark College. 

John is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, where he attained his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and his Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance. John received his Pupil Personnel Services Credential from San Jose State University. He also attended the University of South Carolina, in Columbia, SC., where he obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Educational Administration. 

Dr. Burton loves to spend time with his wife and four kids. They enjoy traveling and camping on the beach. In his spare time he continues to give back to the community by coaching football and using it as a vehicle to help shape young men’s lives. He is pleased to be a Highlander and looks forward to hopefully making a difference.

Amanda starting working in education in 2015 when she started as a Substitute Teacher in the Ventura County School District. She has had the opportunity to work as a School Counselor at both Moorpark High School and Westlake High School. She started the 2018-2019 school year at Royal High School and it didn't take long for her to realize that it is a truly special place. Amanda loves being a part of the Royal Family and is so happy she has found her home. 

Amanda grew up in Ventura County and is so excited to be given the opportunity to give back to the community that molded her into the person she is today. Amanda values her family and loves to spend time with them. On her days off you can find her at the beach, camping, hiking, in the gym, or even at a country concert. 

Amanda has a true passion for working with our youth and values each moment that is spent helping, supporting, and getting to know them. Her journey has just begun and she couldn't more excited.
